Does A Sudden Death Liven Up The Game ? Rules, incentives, and strategy in football1

چکیده
In an e¤ort to stimulate more attractive football, the international football association FIFA, has introduced several new rules over the past decades. One of the most recent rule change is the introduction of the ”sudden death” or ”golden goal” rule for games going into overtime. This paper analyses under which conditions, if any, the introduction of the sudden death rule improves the attractiveness of the football game. Our theoretical results indicate that the new rule will change the behavior of the teams, but not necessarily in the way intended. It may stimulate more o¤ensive play during extra times, but only if a team considers itself having a ”comparative advantage” in o¤ensive play vis-a-vis playing defensively. In other cases it will induce more defensive playing. Empirical evidence suggests that both may occur, but that the latter may be the more common situation and that the introduction of the sudden death rule has induced more defensive soccer, i.e. the opposite of the intention. The response of the government and the people to restrictions imposed following coronavirus outbreak: A game theory approach
The widespread outbreak of Covid 19 disease has cost the government and the people so much that its effects need to be investigated. Therefore, this study tries to study the strategy of the government and the people in the form of game theory, considering the limitations created following the outbreak of coronavirus during the period of 2020/02/19 to 2021/04/19. The results showed that, when t...
متن کاملSelection of energy source and evolutionary stable strategies for power plants under financial intervention of government
Currently, many socially responsible governments adopt economic incentives and deterrents to manage environmental impacts of electricity suppliers. Considering the Stackelberg leadership of the government, the government’s role in the competition of power plants in an electricity market is investigated. A one-population evolutionary game model of power plants is developed to study how their pro...

متن کاملRobust Opponent Modeling in Real-Time Strategy Games using Bayesian Networks
Opponent modeling is a key challenge in Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games as the environment is adversarial in these games, and the player cannot predict the future actions of her opponent. Additionally, the environment is partially observable due to the fog of war. In this paper, we propose an opponent model which is robust to the observation noise existing due to the fog of war. In order to cope...
